Leonard Wise Grimsley was born either February 19th (birth certificate) or 18th (his Mother, Clara Belle Wise Grimsley, swears), 1922.  He was the son of Rollie & Clara Belle Grimsley and was born & lived in Alexandria, Virginia before his parents settled in  Asheville, North Carolina.  

After Dad's car accident on February 8, 1968, he ran and was elected Clerk of the District Court in Shelby County.  He held this office for 18 years until his death February 5, 1986.  Click here to see his gravesite in the Harlan Cemetary.  He died  mostly as a result of years of complications he suffered after 18 years of paralysis.  His car accident was February 8, 1968 and we buried him in Harlan, Iowa on February 8, 1986.  Prior to his death, Dad spent the last 27 years of his life in Harlan and was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church.

Dad had one sister, Lila and two brothers, Wendell and Vernon.  Lila Grimsley Wilson lives in Arlington, Virginia; Vernon in his parents home in Asheville, and Wendell (deceased).  Vernon and Wendell each have one son, Steve Grimsley and Wendell Grimsley Jr., respectively.
